Tayler Bomar

Mitchell County Schools is proud to announce that Tayler Bomar, a second-grade teacher at Greenlee Primary School, has been named the Northwest Region Teacher of the Year by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI). Tayler’s passion for education, dedication to her students, and innovative teaching strategies have earned her this prestigious honor.

The NCDPI Northwest Region includes the following counties: Alexander, Alleghaney, Ashe, Avery, Burke,  Caldwell, Catawba, McDowell, Mitchell, Watauga, Wilkes, and  Yancey.

Tayler has been an integral part of the Greenlee Primary School community for five years, where she is known for her creative and engaging teaching methods that encourage her students to develop a love for learning. Her approach emphasizes both academic achievement and emotional well-being, creating a supportive and enriching classroom environment for her second graders.

The Northwest Region Teacher of the Year award is part of a larger statewide program that recognizes outstanding educators who demonstrate excellence in teaching and leadership. Tayler will go on to represent the Northwest Region in the state Teacher of the Year competition, where she will compete with other regional winners from across North Carolina.

“I am truly honored to be named as the Teacher of the Year for Mitchell County, but I did not achieve this on my own,” said Mrs. Bomar. “ I believe that teaching is a selfless profession, one where you give much of your time, energy, and care to the students who are in your classroom., But, it is also considered selfless because we are in a profession of collaboration for the betterment of our fellow teachers. Collaborating with each other is the best way to achieve success, we need each other to help our students succeed and achieve their greatest potential.”

Superintendent Chad Calhoun shared his pride in Tayler’s achievement. “Mitchell County is so proud of Tayler Bomar. She is an outstanding teacher who cares for kids. Tayler is a product of Mitchell County Schools and came back to make a difference in our schools. We are proud and she will represent our region well in the state Teacher of the Year competition. Go Tayler!”

Tayler Bomar will be formally recognized in April at a ceremony  in Raleigh, where the state Teacher of the Year will be announced. Mitchell County Schools is incredibly proud of her accomplishment and look forward to her continued impact on the students in our community.
