https://gofund.me/35118cc9 Dear Friends, Family, and Community Today, we unite to extend our heartfelt support to a man whose life has touched ours profoundly. Ben Pressley, our cherished CTE Automotive Instructor at Mitchell High School, has dedicated 20 years to shaping the futures of countless students. But he is not just an instructor; he is a hero whose life story is filled with extraordinary dedication and resilience. Those who know Ben know he is the person who selflessly helps others on a daily basis. Ben is always joking and smiling with everyone and making life at Mitchell High better. After heart surgery, Ben planned to return to the classroom in the Fall of 2023 but unfortunately his health has not improved and he will not be able to return to the job he loves. Ben and his family are currently facing financial instability, tough decisions, and Ben’s home is in need of a new heating system, repairs and modifications due to his illness. Despite the obstacles he has faced, including a battle with Type 1 Diabetes that led to nerve damage, back issues, and eyesight complications, Ben always persevered. He was born with a heart condition, and, sadly, the medical advice he received 20 years ago proved to be incorrect. The absence of regular check-ups allowed his condition to deteriorate unknowingly, ultimately necessitating a valve replacement. In early 2023, Ben underwent aortic valve replacement surgery, but the procedure caused unforeseen damage, leaving him with a daily need for oxygen support. He now struggles to perform even the simplest everyday tasks, his breathing is labored, and his strength has diminished. Throughout his life, Ben has been a true pillar of support for his community as a teacher, volunteer firefighter, co-worker and friend to many. Today, we have the opportunity to give back to Ben, the man who has given so much of himself to others. By contributing to Ben’s GoFundMe campaign, you are not only helping him overcome these financial challenges but also expressing your deep appreciation for a man with a heart of gold. Please share this campaign with your friends, family, and community, and let's come together to support the hero who has dedicated his life to educating, protecting, and inspiring us all. With heartfelt gratitude, Mitchell High School Mountaineer Family

Please be aware that the federal government will conduct a nationwide test of the emergency alert system on Wednesday afternoon. The test is scheduled to happen about 2:20 pm and alerts will be sent to all cell phones, televisions, and radios. This will be during dismissal times at many of our schools, so we want to make sure everyone understands this is a test to eliminate confusion and panic. https://www.fema.gov/press-release/20231003/fema-and-fcc-plan-nationwide-emergency-alert-test-oct-4-test-messages-will

Our Mitchell County Schools Facebook page has been "unpublished" because we have been reported as "breaking community standards." We have appealed and requested a review on this decision. Please be patient as we try to regain access to our FB page.

Over the past couple of weeks, there have been several incidents where students’ social media use at home has created disruptions at school. Many of the apps students use on personal devices are not designed or meant for harm, but are being used as a platform for disruptive behavior. Our servers block social media on school-issued student devices at both school and home. We try to teach our students the importance of digital citizenship and about being a responsible user of technology. We encourage you to talk to your child about appropriate use of technology as well.
