Mitchell High and Mayland Early College students worked in collaboration on manning and dispersing diapers and supplies on Saturday 2/15 at Harris Middle School. These students worked through the cold and rain to deliver diapers and needed baby items to families. Mitchell High's FCCLA club focuses on the importance of supporting the family and the community. They are very active in donating time and fund-raising activities in support of Mitchell County families.

T-Mobile Hotspots
Mitchell County Schools partnered with T-Mobile to bring the T-Mobile Project 10 Million to our students. We received a limited number of FREE hotspots for students who need connectivity at home. If you are the parent/guardian of a Mitchell High or Mayland Early College student and are in need of a hotspot, please print, sign and return the agreement linked below OR visit the school for a printed copy. We will send the hotspot home with your child once the agreement has been signed and returned to the Help Desk. We will be reaching out to middle school students in the near future.

On Monday, February 10th, Dr. Hawkins, Assistant Principal of MHS, came in as a guest speaker in Taylor Hughes' Sports and Event 2 Course about her profession as an Athletic Trainer. Sports and Event 2 students are currently learning about legal issues in Sports and Event Marketing. Her topic of focus was how concussion protocol has changed over the course of her career. Students have been watching the PBS documentary called "A League of Denial" which focuses on the concussion crisis and the NFL. Dr. Hawkins also talked briefly about the process of becoming an Athletic Trainer. Thank you, Dr. Hawkins!

CTE Month Activities...
As part of CTE month, Mitchell CTE hosted a half-court shot contest at Mitchell High School on Tuesday, February 4th, at the Mitchell vs. Heritage basketball game. This event was used to bring awareness to the CTE programs at Mitchell High School and highlighted our CTE student enrollment, course offerings, pathways, and credentialing rates.
During halftime at the Varsity Boy’s game, everyone who attended the game was invited to step onto the court and attempt a half-halfcourt shot. Many students of all ages from both Mitchell County Schools and Yancey County Schools attempted to make the shot. Several students made it and won a prize bundle that consisted of a Mitchell CTE t-shirt, notebook, and magnet.
