School Calendar for Week of November 11th, 2024
Monday- Veterans Day Holiday- No School
Tuesday-Friday - One Hour Delay

Mayland will restart classes by October 28. Our plan is to provide multiple opportunities for students to move forward as their situations allow.
We will be reopening the first eight-week courses to allow students to complete work. If you are registered for a second eight-week course, you are still registered, with most starting on October 28.
Please check your MCC email and Moodle as soon as you can. Your MCC Instructors will communicate changes to the course schedule and any changes to the syllabus.
We know each student has unique circumstances, so please get in touch with your MCC Instructor and discuss your situation. We hope that every student is able to complete their classes, and MCC is committed to doing everything we can to ensure success.

Mitchell County Schools "Mountaineer Strong" T-shirt pre-order pickups will be available starting Saturday, October 26 at the Mitchell High School Football Game. On Tuesday, October 29 and Wednesday, October 30 we will also have another pickup/t-shirt sale from 11:00-12:30 at Mitchell County Schools Board of Education Office.

We are so excited for Trunk or Treat on October 31!

Please consider donating to one of these funds, which will go directly toward student trips that have already been planned. Deposits and payments are due for some of the trips, and we do not want to ask our students to pay any money during this difficult time. This is one way we can offer a little hope and a sense of normalcy.
Our Juniors and Seniors already missed out on school trips during COVID, and we don’t want that to happen again this year due to circumstances beyond our control. Please share this message with any contacts you may have outside of our community!

We urge you to follow the Mitchell County NC Government and Michell County Emergency Management pages. We will try to share community updates when possible, but like everyone else, we don't have cell service unless we go outside the area.

Homecoming Announcement!

Mitchell High School Homecoming Court will be presented in the Mitchell High School gym at 6:30pm. The football game is still on schedule as of right now.

Mitchell County Schools will be Closed tomorrow, Thursday Sept 26th and Friday, Sept 27th due the severe rain and wind event predicted to hit our area. We are forecasted to receive up to 15+ inches of rainfall and sustained winds of 50 mph+. Rainfall is predicted to become heavy after midnight tonight. Please stay safe and monitor this weather event!

The Mitchell High School football game has been rescheduled from Friday until tomorrow night at 7:00pm. At this time, our school schedule will remain as planned, with a 2 hour early release day on Friday. We will continue monitor the weather and will keep you informed if changes are needed in the schedule later in the week.

Mitchell High FCCLA students met after school on Wednesday to plant some fall flowers and place scarecrows and pumpkins in the outdoor flower pots. The students set a goal to work on making MHS more inviting and a place all students are proud to attend. FCCLA students are fundraising to maintain the decorative pots of flowers to keep MHS looking sharp!

Just a reminder that next Friday is an Early Release Day!

Next week, September 23-27, is School Bus Ridership Week across school districts in North Carolina. The funding that we get for transportation is dependent on the number of students who ride a school bus during this week. Even if your child rides the bus occasionally, we ask that they please ride at least one day next week.

On Tuesday, September 17th, representatives from MAHEC will be at Mitchell to speak to students interested in any health career area about programs they will offer to Mitchell High School students. Any student can attend the presentation in the auditorium on September 17th during the Advisory period to learn about their Health Careers Academy, the new Health Careers Passport Program (available to only 3 high schools in WNC), the Health Careers Summer Camp 2025, and the Project Promise Internship program. Students will hear about the opportunities and how to apply to participate in the programs.
